Transplantation

Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation can be a lifesaving treatment for some forms of cancers that have not sufficiently responded to other treatments. Stem cells are harvested from the patient and are subsequently re-transplanted after aggressive chemotherapy. This is an innovative procedure that can be an alternative to the more traditional bone marrow transplants. Stem cells are the “mother cells” from which mature blood cells evolve. Your doctor can provide more details about this approach.

PSCC patients receive transplantation therapy at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), which includes The Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, or the University of Washington Medical Center, both in Seattle.
